Petlinks Purrfect Paws Gray Cat Litter Mat

Perhaps it comes with the boredom of being a cat in a small house, but it seems there is no activity my cat enjoys more than flinging litter every which way he can during his visits to the litter box. My initial thought to prevent this was to purchase a hooded litter box. However, my kitty had just been rescued and was still very skittish; I was worried an enclosed space might cause him more stress. So before I made that purchase, I decided to try a litter trapping mat.

The Petlinks Purrfect Paws Cat Litter Mat is a rubber mat that can be purchased in various sizes. It has holes that are designed to collect litter and spread apart cat’s paws to remove litter clinging to them. I did notice an improvement in the amount of litter that clung to kitty’s paws. I was grateful he seemed to be tracking less muddy paw prints around my house. Though the mat was great for capturing the litter that directly escaped the box, it was no match for my cat’s aggressive litter tossing. I had hoped with less litter clinging to his paws he might be less inclined to hurl litter. Unfortunately that did not seem to be the case.

All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone with a mild to moderate litter spreading problem, but if your cat could join the Olympic Litter Flinging Team, you may still want to invest in a hooded litter box.
